Sports Medicine Advisory Committee

Meeting Minutes

Taste of Thai

May 4, 2009 – 6 – 7:30 p.m.

6:00  Welcome – Introduction

In attendance: Kirsten Harvey, Brenda Black, Tracey Theriault, Lauren Hadley, Collen, Jaime Ablutz

6:10  Annual review of two-year plan
-Reviewed changes/additions of the 2 Year Plan. Approved by all in attendance

6:45 Green jobs are the hot trend. What, based on your industry, would you suggest as student projects that can promote green jobs?

For example: A fashion merchandising assignment to design or promote a style of dress. What “green” fabrics could be used?

-Hard to identify ‘green’ products because this is the medical field and the industry standards of cleaning/biohazards are so much more stringent than the ‘regular’ world.

-Address organic/whole foods in the nutrition section of the curriculum.

-We use splits tape (manufacturer’s rolls with ends sewn together, may have double layers of tape, extra adhesive or not enough) for teaching instruction in the classroom, this would all be waste if it wasn’t used up.

7:15 Program specific discussion items

Colleen: How are budget issues affecting CTE?
Lauren: Class numbers need to be higher, in the 25-27 range (might be less advanced classes offered due to this). We are now questioning what will happen with our Perkins funds.

7:30  Adjourn

Will set dates for next year’s meetings at the fall kickoff.
