CISCO – Is this a course that Everett Public Schools should continue to offer?
Enrollment / student interest in Cisco has declined. When first offered interest was high because students could get networking jobs with just Cisco certification. Job market has changed, so has Cisco course. Both demand more, higher level training and education to be employable. Cisco is expensive program to offer due to fixed fee for the program from Cisco. Low enrollment = high per pupil cost. Cost effectiveness must be considered. Enrollment drives programs.
Options are to drop the Cisco course altogether, or combine it with the A+ course. Its unlikely students in a combined course would achieve Cisco certification. Cisco component would be more of an intro to network systems. Few students currently earn certification. The course requires students with high level of motivation and determination.
No decision on this discussion topic.
All CTE programs will feel impact of WASL graduation requirement. Students will be scheduled into WASL remediation courses, limiting their elective choices.
Industry standard discussion Part 1
A general discussion about expectations for entry level employees in technical fields. Centered mostly around film production as this was the industry represented by community member present. It was agreed that the expectations discussed would be generally applicable to all fields.
