Subject: Welcome
Discussion: John opened the meeting and welcomed all the members. Lunch was provided for the committee.
Subject: Curriculum For Career Choices/WOIS
Discussion: Jan discussed the WOIS curriculum that John and Jan use in their classes. Students receive updated information on careers, schools and assessments to help with their post secondary plans. John and Jan have made revisions on the curriculum which will continue to be revised as needed. The student feedback on WOIS has been very positive as the information relates to their career choices.
Subject: 21st Century Skills Employer Evaluation Form
Discussion: Judy distributed the new Employer evaluation form that includes the new 21st century skills which replaces the SCAN skills that we used previously. Schools must promote an understanding of academic content at much higher levels by weaving 21st Century Skills themes into core subjects. After reading the document, Tom Braaten made a motion to approve this form and Susan Miller seconded the motion. The members approved this as our revised employer evaluation form.
Subject: JAG Program
Discussion: Carl and Judy discussed the JAG program. Carl attended a JAG conference and said the JAG model has been around since 1980. Washington State has recently become an affiliated state. Jag’s vision is “A Nation without Dropouts”.
Carl explained that JAG goals keep young people in school through graduaton and improve the rate of success in achieving education and career goals. This program was developed for at risk students. Carl provided a grant to pilot this program for the GOAL students which gives Judy a professional opportunity for her students. We will follow up on this program with further information in the future.
Subject: CLC Leadership Conference
Discussion: Judy discussed the CLC event that she took her GOAL students to. Judy provided the committee with a list of awards that her students received at the event for job skills, math test, presentations, and food service.
Subject: Resumes
Discussion: The Business members were asked if they require electronic resumes for employment which was discussed. John distributed a Seattle Times publication on Business/Technology and social networking was discussed.
Subject: WBL Advisory members
Discussion: Jan advised the members that Jancie Henning, a member of the WBL Advisory committee since 1986, has retired and resigned from our committee. We will need three to four new members to complete our committee. Carl asked that John, Jan and Judy provide names of student employers that could serve on this committee.
