      STANDARDS FOR GOAL

       


      GOAL serves students who have disabilities, so all instruction and goals are individualized. There are certain standards we aspire to, however.

       
      I. Students are able to live independently to the extent of their ability level. Students are able to:
      A. Dust, sweep, and vacuum.
      B. Clean and disinfect a bathroom.
      C. Prepare, cook and clean up after a simple meal.
      D. Sort, wash, dry, and fold laundry.
      E. Set up a household budget.
      F. Use and maintain a checking account.
      G. Compare brands, prices, and vendors when making purchases.
      H. Ask for and seek out help when they are not sure how to handle a home situation.
      I. Make appointments using the phone.
      J. Use financial management agencies if needed.


       
      II. Students are able to get from home to their jobs and other places. Students are able to:
      A. Obtain a drivers license or
      B. Use public transportation on a regular basis or
      C. Access DART services if needed.


       
      III. Students are able to participate in post high school training and education and recreational activities in their community. Students are able to:
      A. Locate educational and recreational opportunities in their community.
      B. Arrange for participation in activities and classes.
      C. Follow through and attend classes or participate in activities.


       
      IV. Students are able to support themselves when they leave school. Students are able to:
      A. Use the phone and/or internet to discover how to apply for a job, who to see, and when to go in to apply.
      B. Fill out an application.
      C. Make a work portfolio including a resume.
      D. Answer interview questions about their abilities and strengths.
      E. Follow a work schedule which includes lunch and breaks accurately.
      F. Follow directions from a supervisor.
      G. Ask questions when unsure about directions.
      H. Approach customers courteously.
      I. Personally assist customers
      J. Direct customers to appropriate people when they are unable to help them.
      K. Call in to report if they are ill or unavoidably late.
      L. Meet the standards and follow procedures of the work place.
      M. Access community agencies for job assistance.
      N. Find assistance for working with SSI requirements.
      O. Ask for accommodations when needed.
