Subject: Welcome
Discussion: John opened the meeting and introduced the members.
Subject: WBL Program Overview; Choices Curriculum and WBL State Required Forms
Discussion: John discussed the Work Based Learning Program and the changes to the program that the State has implemented. John distributed copies of the required forms that each Work Based Learning Teacher/Coordinator completes with each employer. John explained
each form and asked the committee to review and make comments which we will address at our next WBL meeting held in March. Jan advised the committee that each form has been approved by the Everett Public Schools Risk Management department.
Judy Karber distributed copies of the Choices curriculum that each WBL student completes for an occupational or elective credit. Judy explained that the State provided a model framework curriculum and the WBL teachers attended staff development workshops to revise and update this curriculum for the WBL program in the Everett School District. The Advisory members were asked to again review and make comments for our next meeting held in March.
Subject; Updates from Industry
Discussion: John addressed entry level requirements for the Business Industry and asked each member to comment on their requirements for entry level positions. The members stated that although they each require different levels of skills for their individual businesses, they agreed that the following skills are necessary to be a successful employee: Good attendance and always be on time, be positive, be a team player, be prepared, be a good listener, be a doer and be a quality worker.
Subject: Elect a Chairperson for the 2006-2007 year.
Discussion: John advised the committee that we needed to elect a new Chairperson for the 2006-2007 year. Tom nominated Kathy Dostie and Janice seconded the nomination. All the members voted that Kathy will be the new chairperson and Kathy accepted the position.
John thanked the committee for their dedication to the WBL Advisory Committee and Everett Public Schools. The next meeting will be held on March 29,2007 at 12PM at EHS.
