ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES


 
Date: May 15, 2008
Time: 12 PM
Location: Everett High School
 
In attendance: Susan Miller, Rob Ramsburg, Lauren Hadley, John Barhanovich, Judy Karber and Jan Wise

Janice Henning, Tom Braaten and Bethany Ziegler called with regrets.


 

Subject: Welcome

Discussion: John opened the meeting and welcomed the members. The

minutes of the February meeting were approved as written.

 

 

Subject: WBL Two-Year Plan

Discussion: John distributed copies of the Work Based Learning two-year plan. John discussed the importance of this work in progress for the work

based learning program. The committee discussed curriculum instruction,

WASL alignment, career component, leadership, industry and post secondary connections, program marketing and advisory. After a period of discussion,

the committee approved the two-year plan for 2008-2009.

 

Subject: Student Recognition

Discussion: Judy, John and Jan participated in the Warm Beach Career

Conference that Judy organized. The students participated in leadership

events, job skills, math test, human relations case studies, food service

team building and power point activities. This conference gives our students

the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the world of work.

Judy reported on the Goal recognition awards event that was held on

May 9, 2008. This is always an important event for students and Business

members.

 

 

 

Subject: Volunteer Recognition

Discussion: Jan presented the committee members with certificates of

appreciation signed by Carl Fender, CTE Director. John, Jan, Judy and Lauren thanked this committee for their dedication and participation on the Everet Public Schools WBL Advisory committee. The committee oversees the Work Based Learning curriculum, two-year plan and employment of our

students.

 

Subject: Other

Discussion: Rob Ramsburg of the Silvertips advised the committee that he will need students to volunteer or intern. Jan has had students in her WBL classes that have received credit for their positions with the Silvertips. Bethany and Susan also employ Work Based Learning students who have

earned credits through Judy’s GOAL program.

Subject: Statistics

Discussion: Rob asked is we have statistics on the percentage of students

who attend college after high school. John said this information is available and we will get the statistics to share with the committee.

 

Subject: Next year meeting dates

Discussion: Even though our meeting dates are set at the Kickoff meeting

in October, schedule conflicts do come up. The meeting time was discussed

and the committee agreed to continue meeting at 12PM.

 

Next Meeting Date: Fall Kickoff meeting

Meeting notices will be sent in the Fall.
