ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES


 
Date: February 28, 2008
Time: 12 PM
Location: Everett High School
 
In attendance: Bethany Ziegler, Susan Miller, John Barhanovich, Judy

Karber and Jan Wise

Janice Henning, Tom Braaten, Rob Ramsburgh and Carl Fender called with regrets.


 

Subject: Welcome

Discussion: John opened the meeting and welcomed all the members. Lunch was provided for the committee. The minutes of the November meeting were approved as written.

 

 

Subject: Student Recognition

Discussion. The committee discussed ways to integrate programs that recognizes students and employees for their achievements. Bethany and

Susan discussed the recognition programs they have at their companies for good customer service, employee of the year etc. The Work Based Learning program recognizes students performance as a result of their employer evaluations at the workplace. The committee discussed various certificates that could be given to students and to the employers that employ our students.

 

 

Subject: Program growth and marketing – showcasing student work

Discussion: Jan participated in a “Student Showcase” evening at Sequoia.

She distributed the flyer and brochure that was given out to the parents

and community members. The CTE department had a display that included

a DVD that played continuously, showing all of the classes offered. Student work was displayed from the Work Based Learning class and other CTE classes. The CTE staff talked to many parents and community members regarding their classes.

 

 

Judy discussed the middle schools’ Transition Fairs that she has participated in to promote her program and she also has a brochure for the G.O.A.L. program. John stated that he works closely with the

Counselors as they schedule students in classes. Jan visits the Advisory classes at Sequoia and gives a presentation on Work Based Learning. The Advisory teachers are then aware of which students are employed and schedules them in WBL classes.

 

 

Subject: G.O.A.L. Students employed at Fred Meyer and JoAnn Fabrics

Discussion: Bethany Ziegler (Fred Meyer) and Susan Miller (JoAnn Fabrics)

discussed their workplaces and the students they employ from Judy’s

class. John thanked them for the employment opportunities they offer our students and for their valuable contribution as members of our WBL committee.
