Welcome & Introductions

Those present: John Monroe, Terri Drayer, Susan Bradshaw, Curtis Takahashi, Murray Reid, Robert Sotak, Brian Day, Carl Fender, Diane Storm, recorder. We welcomed a new member Dayna Eden from the Everett clinic.

 





Minutes from January 30th meeting

January meeting minutes were accepted and approved as written.  

   





Elementary STEM

Bob Sotak, and Brian Day shared with the group some new written materials for Engineering at the Elementary level with curriculum activity based learning engaging Engineering. Teaching 21st century skills, equity for every student should have an opportunity, not limiting the options. Using a systemic approach. There was a short promo video on Engineering at the Elementary grade level for the group to view. John stated that the shift in starting as early in elementary schools needs to get out to the employers to assure them that future students are being prepared for STEM employment. Curtis thought that EPS was doing a good job in equity within schools and programs. Murray was glad to see kids learning soft skills and foundation skills at an early age.

 





End of Year Program Review

In the interest of time, Carl asked the advisory members to look over the documents of Career and Technical Education Program Evaluation, and Career Technical Education program standards that were in their packets for further discussion on our next meeting.  

     





CTSO and After School Updates

The STEM team shared updates on the CTSO’S and after school activities with Engineering Research, TSA, SKILLS USA, DECA, FCCLA, 4-H and Robotics

Brian talked about the 4-H club at CHS starting up, and that the greenhouse was going to be refurbished and put into use for this program.  

 





Partnership Follow-up

Terri asked about mentor follow-up, community partnerships and how they can support. Some ideas of discussion, were using social media getting the message out to employers, open the window for staff to talk to business community. John suggested getting in contact with SCYPN (Snohomish County Young Professionals) as a start of communication plan for promote community in partnership and work with internships and creating a link between classroom, parents, and teachers. Terri asked that some opportunities of helping with competition judging, CE projects listed in the minutes so the community members would know how they could participate.

 

John wanted to have feedback from the visit to Bethal school district and AIM. Susan Bradshaw and Curtis Takahashi said they were scheduled to visit on March 12, 2012, and would report back on their visit. Depending on time AIM may not be within this visit.

 

 

End of Year Celebration (May 30th 5pm – 7pm at JHS 

 





Other

John Monroe mentioned that he would be out of town for March and April’s meetings.

Terri Drayer and Murray Reid will work together for taking the lead on those months.
