Minutes

Welcome & Introductions

John Monroe welcomed everyone and opened the meeting. Those present were:

Minutes from May 29th meeting

A correction to May 29^th minutes to read PT & OT & Speech, Providence Rehab.

Minutes were then approved.

Summary of Program Review

Business - accounting, business law, economics, Microsoft IT, & Marketing; FACSE – independent living, nutrition and wellness, child development; Visual Communications – yearbook, digital photography, graphic design. Licensing/Certification, Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation, Student Access, Safe Practices, Long Range Planning, Leadership, Advisory Committee, Employability, Certification, WBL, Facilities, Instructional Materials, Academic Integration, Professional Association & Development)

Carl reported a summary of the program reviews from the above program areas. Carl told the group for the most part we are in good shape. In some areas more work needs to be done. One area is the advisory category adding new members to program rosters. Space issues for some programs in schools. Murray requested a follow-up on CTSO at Sequoia high school.

Biotechnology Update

Brian told the group a new textbook has been added to the Biotechnology curriculum. The design is to support all students with a project based approach in levels for all student abilities. There are also resources for parents.

Research Engineering Update

Brian talked about Research and Engineering classes not being offered at Jackson High School next 2013-2014 school year due to low enrollment numbers.

Everett STEM Science Fair Update

Brian reported that the STEM science fair was a success, and next year the fair will be expanded in adding more north end schools. There were 27 entries. The fair was organized and ran by Engineering and Research CTSO students at Jackson High, which is part of their leadership class.

CTE STEM Student Organization End of Year Celebration Update

Carl talked about the STEM student celebration evening. A very successful event, with about 200 students, parents and advisors’. Students were being recognized by their outstanding contributions and leadership within their CTSO. Each student was selected by their CTSO advisor and received a certificate award.

Student Industry Certification

(Microsoft IT, NCRC, Auto, STARS (Daycare Aid)

Carl shared some primary numbers of student industry certifications. All information is not in yet. Carl will report back next meeting on total numbers of student that took tests and received certificates.

Planning for Next year

1.	John thought it would be interesting to see some data of income that students would receive with certificates.
2.	Bring teachers and/or students to share with general advisory at monthly meetings.
3.	Look at manufacturing competencies in each program area for the instructor to check off that a student could to take to an employer on interviews for evidence on skills.
4.	Graduation follow up on students for 2012.
5.	It was decided to meet on a monthly basis on the third Wednesday of each month. 2:30-4:00pm Agendas to be set before each meeting.
