High Demand / High Wage Skill Area

Anneliese Vance-Sherman from Snohomish County Labor department gave the group and overview of unemployment rates and labor force information. Areas of growth were in health care, professional business services, software development, with construction picking up. Retail, leisure and hospitality showed some growth also but were lower wages and not steady work. Manufacturing showed a bit of a plateau, however manufacturing led an early economic recovery in Snohomish County and statewide. There are projections for high growth in all STEM related jobs. Over all STEM related jobs demanded a higher wage. Data shows that contract work is going through employment agencies with possible long term hiring. Forecast information for Washington State is: www.erfc.wa.gov
