    High School 101:

    Blueprint for Success

    Teacher’s Guide

Everett Public Schools is committed to providing every student with the inspiration, planning, academic preparation, and social capital to graduate from high school ready for college and careers. As a middle school counselor or teacher, you play a critical role in preparing each 8th grader for the transition to high school.

I am pleased to introduce this fourth edition of High School 101: Blueprint for Success Teacher’s guide, a companion to the student resource, High School 101: Blueprint for Success. This guide will support the transition activities you will engage in with your 8th grade students. It contains lesson plans to be used with the student resource guide.

The following guidelines will help you get started:

    · You will notice that in the Table of Contents of the student resource guide (blue cover), italicized titles indicate booklet worksheets. These worksheets are activities students will complete as you go through the guide. The “Answer Key” for each worksheet is provided in the Teacher’s Guide.

Highlights of several lessons provided in the student guide (blue cover):

    · High School Vocabulary Worksheet (pages 8 – 9)

    · Post High School Opportunities (pages 13 – 15) – gives more opportunities about the doors on page 12.

    · High School Graduation requirements (page 20 - 21) – use these pages when teaching about high school credits. The worksheet is on page 22.

    · Calculate your GPA worksheet (page 24) – this is provided to use with the GPA trajectory lesson.

    · High School transcript (page 25) - we suggest you project this page using a document camera. It is also available online at: http://www.everettsd.org/Page/9411

    · Creating your 4-year high school plan (page 26) should be completed by all students before their Transition meetings.

    · Additional lesson worksheets can be found on pages 11, 12, 34, 37, 40 & 41

The following has also been included in the back of this booklet (starting on pg 43):

    · A Teacher’s Guide Lesson: Understanding High School Credits
