    SeaPup Program, Cedar Wood Elementary

Welcome! The Cedar Wood SeaPup program helps transition newly enrolled kindergarten students and their families to our school. A variety of activities promote familiarity with our campus, our routines and our school community.

Here is a list of the activities scheduled for this summer. The following page is a calendar of these dates.

Summer Running Club: Every Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 Cedar Wood students and families gather in our gym and on our track to walk or run. This friendly, non-competitive program provides a way for students and adults to meet others in our community and promotes fitness. Parents often push strollers around our track or walk while their children jog. This is not a formal “club” (you can attend once or every session all summer long) but children need a signed permission form to take part and must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Open Library: Our school library is open every Wednesday morning from 9:30 – 11:30. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Any child enrolled in Everett Public Schools may check books out. Students keep track of their summer reading in their Summer Reading Challenge booklets and tie a ribbon on our school fence each time they complete a book.

Popsicles on the Playground: Students enrolling in kindergarten for the fall of 2015 and their parents are invited to three very informal play sessions on our main playground. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and to introduce themselves and their children to other families. Dates are July 15th, 29th and August 12th at 11:00. Come once, twice, or all three times. (Hosted by our PTA.)

Campus tour: Families wishing to tour the campus are invited on August 12th at 4:00 for a very informal walk through the kindergarten playground and classrooms, courtyard, cafeteria, library, gym and other areas frequented by kindergartners. Families may meet Dr. Jones at the flagpole for this 30 minute orientation to our campus.

Kindergarten Orientation: Parents of new kindergarten students are invited to attend the summer Kindergarten Orientation at 6:30 on August 18th in the school library. This one-hour session provides parents with an overview of a typical day in kindergarten and allows time for questions. Child care is provided. (This is a repeat of the same session presented in the spring. You do not need to attend twice.)

First Day of School: Our PTA is hosting a Kinder Parent Coffee on the first day of school for parents whose children are starting half-day and full-day kindergarten. After dropping your child off for class come gather in the school cafeteria with other parents and laugh/cry as you deal with your “empty nest” experience.

Family Handbook: Our Family Handbook provides an overview of the many routines and procedures that promote child safety and learning at your child’s school. Please take the time to read through this handbook and then share information with your child so that he/she is ready for success on the first day. Handbooks can be downloaded from the school web site starting mid-July.
