      Career and Technical Education Course Title: Floriculture 1,2,3 & 4 (Floral Design 1,2,3 & 4)

      Model Curriculum Framework Floral Design 1 -(9-12 grade/exploratory-90 hours)A course that introduces students to the basics of the Retail Flower Shop. Course includes instruction in basic Floral Design and arranging, bow making, corsages as well as studying and putting into practice the elements and principles of design, care & handling of cut flowers. Topics also include Careers in the Floral Industry, the History of Floral Design, Design Styles, Work Safety & Cut Flower Identification. Continuation to Floral Design 2 is strongly recommended.

      Floral Design 2 - (9-12 grade/preparatory-90 hours)This course is a continuation of Floral Design 1 where students will gain advanced design skills in a variety of areas such as Sympathy Work, Wedding Designs, Ikebana-Japanese Flower Arranging as well as Cut Flower Identification and Floral Industry Career Investigation. Students will gain Leadership Skills by setting up a floral business-Gull’ s Garden by learning the principles of business management, purchasing, storage and delivery systems. Continuation to Floral Design 3 is strongly recommended for students interested in the Floral Industry.

      Floral Design 3- (10-12 grade/preparatory-90 hours)This course is a continuation of Floral Design 2 where students will continue to practice advanced design skills. Students will be expected to train other students as they increase their Leadership and Management Skills in the Retail Flower Shop. Topics will include Wedding and Special Event Design, Cut Flower Identification, Interior Plant Identification and Floral Industry Career Investigation. Students interested in the Floral Industry are strongly recommended to continue into Floral Design 4.

      Floral Design 4- (10-12 grade/preparatory-90 hours)This course is a continuation of Floral Design 3 where students will practice advanced design skills. Students will also be expected to train other students as they increase their Leadership and Management in a Retail Flower Shop. Topics will include Interior Plant Identification, Interior Plant Care & Maintenance as well as gain the skills needed to start and maintain an Interior Plant Care business.
