As you read, your comprehension will improve if you engage with the text. There are numerous ways to interact with the text. One strategy for tracking your interactions includes making double-entry responses to what you read. See the following suggestions.

 

  1. Listing interesting details and summarizing
  1. Identifying important ideas and stating the author’s purpose
  1. Selecting direct quotes and wondering
  1. Selecting direct quotes and making a connection such as “This reminds me of. . .”
  1. Selecting direct quotes and drawing or describing what you are visualizing
